There were contrasting fortunes once again for the Andretti duo of Robin Frijns and Simona de Silvestro in the inaugural Paris ePrix, as for the seventh time this season only one side of the garage enjoyed a point scoring finish.

The team showed promising pace in the opening practice session as both drivers were within a second of the pace set by Sebastien Buemi. Later on in the day, Frijns was able to break into the top ten during FP2.

During qualifying, Frijns was looking to potentially break into the top five, but was ultimately nudged out and had to settle for a sixth place grid slot, while de Silvestro missed out on the top half of the grid and lined up in 12th.

While de Silvestro had an uneventful race towards 15th and last of the finishers, Frijns became embroiled in a titantic battle with the Team Aguri car of Antonio Felix da Costa, providing the best on-track entertainment en route to seventh, ultimately beating his Portuguese rival.

[pullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]Roger Griffiths, Co-Team Principal: “Robin once again missed out on making the Super Pole group again, by 65 one-hundredths of a second. Really close, but at least we’re keeping him close and that’s encouraging. Simona had one of her best qualifying to date and that was a great job by her. The conditions were difficult with it being very cold, just getting tires up to temperature was challenging. The cold conditions really led to both drivers having poor starts, losing positions.”[/pullquote]

Having lost three positions off the start, Frijns had it all to do in order to rise up the field and challenge for points. The Dutchman was making good progress, making up two positions whilst going wheel-to-wheel with da Costa, but was confined to seventh place after the safety car was deployed, ending the Paris ePrix.

[pullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”The start was really bad. I lost three places I think. I was bunched up in the middle between two cars. I tried to make my way back and took over two cars in my first stint. Then just before my pit stop took one more. We lost that position in the pit lane, so I think we need to look at that. I was struggling a lot with the second car. It just didn’t have the pace and I had issues with braking especially. I don’t know what the issue is but we will check some data and see what happens for the next race. We scored points and that’s the most important thing.”[/pullquote]

After the euphoria of scoring her first Formula E points at Long Beach, Paris represented a return to frustration for de Silvestro. The Swiss driver qualified just outside the top ten in 12th but was unable to progress as she lost three positions on the opening lap, remaining confined to the rear of the field for the duration of the ePrix.

[pullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”The day was actually alright. In qualifying I made a little bit of a mistake and could have started P8, which would have been better. At the start I had huge wheel spin and that put us really behind because I dropped back to 15th I think. From there, I was stuck behind someone who was using more energy and couldn’t really get by and that put us back a little more. But definitely the start put us back quite a bit. Other than that, the car was pretty good. Team did a good job as usual. It just has to come together. We are always missing something, somewhere, so hopefully next time it will come together.”[/pullquote]
