Closed Circuit: Venturi in London

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Venturi’s weekend in London was a successful end to their season two campaign, which has seen them finish sixth in the teams’ standings. The team scored points on both days and picked up a superb fifth place on Sunday with Stéphane Sarrazin.

Venturi struggled in qualifying for both races, qualifying down towards the latter end of the field, but still managed to pick up points in both races to finish in a superb sixth place in the Teams’ Standings – three places above last year. However, with changing weather conditions on the Saturday, the Venturi squad will feel they could have qualified higher if it was dry – especially with Sarrazin’s pole here last year. Englishman Conway was also hampered with technical issues on Sunday, preventing him from finishing in what he believed would have been a strong points paying position.

Qualifying for race one was not so great for Sarrazin, wet weather conditions through the qualifying session making it hard for him, as he put his car in fifteenth for the race. Once the race started, he just managed to miss out on points on track finishing in twelfth, again struggling with the mixed conditions of dry and wet weather throughout the entirety of the ePrix as well as being hindered by a car swap that was 33.8s longer than required. However post-race penalties allowed him to rise up to P10, taking a point and continuing his streak of scoring in every race this season.

However, race two was more eventful for Sarrazin and Venturi, after qualifying fifteenth this time in dry conditions which were more favourable to Venturi and the rest of the grid, the Frenchman managed to move his car all the way up the grid to an impressive fifth place in the race.

Conway like his team-mate qualified towards the latter end of the field for race one on Saturday in thirteenth position. He recovered from the disappointing qualifying to come across the line in tenth place, promoted to P9 post-race, to score two points in front of his home crowd.

On Sunday and for race two, the Englishman had less luck, after qualifying twelfth for the final race of the season and setting out to score points in the race. He didn’t manage to add to his points tally and ended the race in thirteenth position after struggling with technical issues with his car. These hampered his chances of moving through the field and he reached the chequered flag one lap behind the leaders.

[pullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”I am sad. It’s been difficult since I joined the series. The Formula E championship is really tough and I have learned a lot since I came in. I’ll bring that next season and I’ll come back next year and be stronger. It’s really a good championship with very good drivers, I have enjoyed it but I would have liked some good results. For example, this weekend in London was not easy like the others. On Sunday’s race, as people were dropping in the last laps, it seems I could have maybe had a top 3 but I had an issue with the car and lost my position. That’s frustrating.”[/pullquote]
