Closed Circuit: Renault e.dams in London

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Renault e.dams had lots of ups and downs in Season 2, but at the end of the day, the well-deserved win arrived – with drama included. In a nail-biting finale in London, the French squad took its second crown as teams’ champions, and Sébastien Buemi could finally become a Formula E drivers’ champion.

Nico Prost was definitely the star of the weekend. With brilliant qualifying both on Saturday and Sunday, the Frenchman won the two races, and scored an important total of points to help the team win the championship. On Saturday, Buemi had a rather poor qualifying, and didn’t perform so well during the race – coming home P5, behind title rival Lucas di Grassi.

On Sunday, things changed for the Swiss driver. He got pole position and led for three turns, until the famous crash with di Grassi happened. Buemi dropped to the last position and was soon into the pits, swapping cars and waiting for the right time to do the fastest lap and got the points that’d grant him the championship.

Things worked in Buemi’s favour, and he scored the fastest lap – a time that di Grassi couldn’t reach. These two fastest lap points gave the Swiss a high enough total to win the championship and become Formula E’s second drivers’ champion.

Sébastien Buemi got to Battersea Park just one point behind title contender Lucas di Grassi. Despite knowing the car had a better set up and was able to fight for pole position, he didn’t make it even to the Top 10 due to rain in qualifying, being at the back in the first laps of the race. He battled back to P5, finishing directly behind di Grassi.

Sunday would be different for the Swiss, as he’d qualify in pole position and knew what he had to do to raise the champion’s trophy. But the infamous crash with di Grassi in Turn 3 put him at the bottom of the standings, and he had to swap cars and wait for the exact time to do the fastest lap.

And he did it: he scored the points necessary to become the champion. As di Grassi couldn’t reach his time, Buemi went back to the pits now crowned as a champion.

[pullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]“I struggle to believe it today. It’s amazing to be the champion after a very tough season. Nico Prost’s amount of bad luck this season was neutralised by two stunning wins in the heart of London. Starting from pole on Saturday, the Frenchman got a win from lights to flag, to grant him his first win of the season – his second overall. In an emotive podium ceremony, father Alain was over the moon, and the names Prost and Senna were together on a podium after 23 years.

Despite not qualifying on pole on Sunday, he got P2 and, after Buemi and di Grassi’s crash, he easily got the lead of the race, and managed to get the win. London was an unforgettable weekend for Prost, who not only proved once again that he has talent, but also helped the team get its second crown. Undoubtedly, there’s more to come from the Frenchman in season 3.

[pullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]“It’s been a dream weekend. […] We’ve had a fantastic weekend, with two wins, so you can’t get much better than this.
