#FEChallenge No. 3: Five reasons we love Formula E

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

For our third #FEChallenge we asked our readers to name their top 5 reasons for loving Formula E. Here’s what they had to say.

Christian: 1. The closeness of the fans
2. Because it’s the first series to race in Berlin which is nice for me (yes I know DTM raced as AVUS until 1995)
3. Because it simply has the best on-track action and head to head racing, unlike F1 for example
4. Because everything around it is a lot of fun
5. Because we are a giant #FEFamily

Sarah S.: 1. It’s all about innovation and future. The ideation of Formula E has caught my attention as it promotes environment friendly racing and groundbreaking technology behind it. We cannot have a better future without these.
2. Street tracks are the best with iconic landmarks as the background. Of course Formula E is completely different than Formula 1 as drivers are always pushing themselves to improve their position until the chequered flag falls. After all, we are always keep ourselves thrill throughout the race.
3. The interaction between fans and drivers, as well as the teams create a friendly atmosphere in Formula E. The power of social media has become huge, with having Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat, the fans able to share their passion with their fellow fans. Plus, the drivers and teams are always keep us updated with their information and activities on their social media sites.
4. Having some of my favourite drivers from Formula 1, GP2 Series and DTM racing in Formula E. Formula E field more experienced drivers from various racing series to show that the fully-electric series emphasizing the continuous growth of the championship. Without the names like Nelson Piquet Jr., Antonio Felix da Costa and Maro Engel, the championship will be dull.
5. The importance of sustainability and challenges in the future. As Formula E brings the message on sustainability, we – the generations of the future should take part in the action to take care of our Mother Nature and how we can all address the challenges of the future.

Norman: 1. There are punishing circuits and not this awful asphalt parking lots where drivers can make 1723 stupid mistakes without having a disadvantage and where people discuss whether someone was 2 cm over a damn white line.
2. An open title fight ’til the end. And no, I don’t count 2 drivers in a silver car driving circles around the opponents as open, despite maybe it’s not mathematically clear whether driver A or driver B will walk away with it before the last race.
3. You can take good selfies on the grid (if you get a sticker of course!)
4. You can eat cucumber ice at Berlin.
5. Nice trips to Brandenburg Gate.

Eva: 1. Because it breaks with the myth that electric cars are slow while raising awareness about sustainability.
2. Because of the close interaction between teams and fans.
3. Because of its highly talented grid.
4. Because it’s really fun to get to see cars racing in the city streets.
5. Because it has the most gorgeous safety car in motorsport ?

Tobi: 1. Norman
2. Norman
3. Norman
4. Norman
5. Norman

Edward: 1. Formula E deliberately diverges from conventional motorsport wisdom, and it’s all the better for it: It uses street tracks in the middle of large, well known cities. It uses clean energy to power electric drivetrains, and it uses car swaps to circumvent technology/cost effectiveness issues. It almost throws out the rulebook to create it’s own more ambitious one.
2. It’s a world-class field, not just of drivers, but also engineers, mechanics and manufacturers all competing against each other at the top of their game. As a result, the racing is usually quite close and entertaining; seldom does the winner get a clear path to victory.
3. It’s a series with personality and a family community; drivers say what they think and feel but it never seems abusive or mean-spirited. All the teams are professional and driven to win, but there is a certain sense of fair play and camaraderie between them; they’re all in this championship together and they want it to succeed.
4. It can deal with problems that would topple a lesser series; logistically it must be a nightmare to organise the calendar but so far they have dealt with difficult scenarios with tact, business acumen and common sense; none of which should be taken for granted.
5. Formula E tries very hard to put the fans first; FanBoost is an obvious attempt at that, but it goes so much deeper. Look at their push towards eSports/gaming and VR; the fans asked for these things and Formula E put a lot of time and money into making it happen. Look at the social media interaction, the sheer amount of content on their YouTube channel, even moving the podium down to the eVillage to make the fans a part of it. Being a Formula E fan is an amazing, very worthwhile experience and you’re left in no doubt that when a driver takes the time to thank the fans, they really mean it.

Tom: 1. 100% electric race cars
2. Sustainability
3. Glycerine
4. Torque
5. Wireless charging BMW i8

Emer: 5. Locations. In the heart of some of the beautiful places in the world, adding a gorgeous backdrop to the race and making your holiday destination wish list longer.
4. The room of awkwardness has no place here. Instead, when when there isn’t parking at the podium, in comes the buggy of banter which is fascinating to listen in to.
3. Podium celebration. An epic end to a fantastic day, and if you’re lucky you might get a bit of a champagne shower.
2. Fan interaction. Whether it’s through social media or at the track itself, fans are included in the chat and spectacle of the day.
1. Close, exciting races that anyone could win have you on the edge of your seat sporting a grin.

Entries have been edited for grammar and to fit the task of the challenge better. We want to thank all people who took part in this challenge and we hope you take part in the challenges to come as well as we simply love reading your submissions!
