Rosenqvist aims for rookie win

Felix Rosenqvist believes taking his maiden Formula E victory in his debut season is a realistic target, with the Swede having already taken a pole position.

Rosenqvist has started the season strongly, with a point for fastest lap in Hong Kong along with pole and a podium in Marrakesh leaving him fourth in the standings heading into Buenos Aires.

A much improved car from the Mahindra Racing team has also helped his cause, with the Swede now aiming for his first victory in the series.

Despite the immense start to his Formula E career, Rosenqvist is remaining realistic about his chances in Buenos Aires and acknowledged a lack of experience at the Argentinian track.

“This is a very tough championship,” Rosenqvist told Motorsport.com. “You really have to be here in Formula E to understand what it is all about and how challenging it is.

“I knew when I joined in the summer that the driver level was very strong and I would say the level is F1 quality, it is super competitive.

“I never want to be over-confident and maybe Marrakesh just suited us at the time, but one thing I have to keep in mind is that the first two tracks we have visited have been more or less new to everyone, so that has helped me slightly as a rookie.

“Now we go to Buenos Aires and, unlike the first two circuits, the majority of drivers already know the track. But we are in the sim next week and are making big strides in this area to be really prepared for Argentina.”

Following the loss of a potential win in Marrakesh, Rosenqvist got together with his engineers and nailed down the issues that thwarted his attempts to keep Sebastien Buemi and Sam Bird at bay and now believes he can mount a more serious challenge in future.

“We sat down as a team and now know what we have to do to improve and not make the same mistakes.

“As always in racing, you learn from experience and it should then make the difference when we get in to a good position like that again where we can fight for a win.

“I think this has to be our focus, I feel it is a realistic aim now.”
