An injury Mahindra Racing’s Nick Heidfeld sustained in the Putrajaya ePrix earlier this month has ruled him out of the World Endurance Championship finale this weekend.

Heidfeld was in a first lap incident with DS Virgin’s Jean-Eric Vergne in Putrajaya, which lead to Vergne retiring from the race. Heidfeld span, but was able to continue driving, finishing ninth. It’s believed this is the collision that caused the damage to the ligaments in the German’s right hand.

Rebellion Racing, Heidfeld’s WEC team, haven’t announced yet who they will replace him with. Heidfeld has already missed the two Asian rounds of the championship, with team mates Nico Prost and Mathias Beche running without him in Fuji and Shanghai.
