Formula E aims for 15 race season

Formula E seasons could eventually be five or six races longer, according to CEO Alejandro Agag.

The series is growing. Lugano race organisers’ failure to raise the money makes it unlikely there’ll be a Swiss ePrix this season, meaning season two will probably be the same length as season one. But more countries, and continents, are looking for an ePrix of their own.

Agag revealed that Australia has two potential candidates for an ePrix, and that the series is looking at more races in Asia, the main area of growth.

“We want to change the mix of cities but have to balance that with the cost of the championship and stability of the teams,” he told Autosport. “More races mean more cost. We need the teams strong and stable but I think in a period of three-five years we will go to a figure of 15 or 16 races.”

It’s unlikely there will be many more races in season three, but one or two new races may be added. Hong Kong has already confirmed its place on the 2016-17 calendar and Canada is in contention to join in the same season.

“We’re looking at other places,” Agag said. “Definitely Asia we have a few locations we may go to, and Europe also.”
