Aguri pleased with Punta points

It was a second successive points finish for Team Aguri in Punta Del Este. Antonio Felix Da Costa finished sixth whilst problems meant team mate Nathanaël Berthon finished fourteenth.

Da Costa qualified eighth, but lost out to Mahindra Racing’s Bruno Senna on the first lap. The Portuguese driver quickly made the place back and had passed Abt’s Daniel Abt before the midrace pit stop. From there, Da Costa passed Virgin’s Sam Bird. He finished the race in sixth.

Berthon had a more difficult race. The Frenchman qualified fourteenth on the grid after mechanical problems limited his running in the practice sessions. During the race, contact with Virgin’s Jean-Eric Vergne compromised Berthon’s race, and he finished fourteenth.

“We had so many problems this weekend, from throttles to batteries to inverters,” Berthon said. “It was massively frustrating for all of us, but sometimes luck doesn’t go your way. Hopefully that will change soon.”

He added that he would have been able to score points, if it weren’t for the fact he was “pushed off by Vergne and that ruined it”.

Team Principal Mark Preston said: “Nat had a very difficult weekend, with bad luck from every direction, and it’s hard to recover when you’re on the back foot from the off.”

Overall, though, the team are pleased with the results, unexpected with many new team members and the season one power train.

“I’m really pleased to see the progress we’re making,” Team owner Marc Faggionato said. “The team was consistent and everyone worked well together. I’m especially impressed because a lot of the guys were new to Formula E this weekend, so it’s a fantastic performance for them, and it showed in the strong result for Antonio today.”

“This is probably where we should be expecting to finish,” Da Costa said. “Perhaps we’ve even gone beyond our expectations. We mixed it with new tech teams and were the strongest of the runners with the season one drivetrain, which is fantastic. I think we’re maximizing our package; this track was always going to be difficult for us so I’m pleased with more points.”
