Amlin Andretti unlucky in Punta

It was a disappointing race for Amlin Andretti. Though both cars finished, the team could only salvage a point from the final race of 2015.

Points finished Robin Frijns started the race in ninth. The Dutch driver made up some positions early on in the race, but could only manage to finish tenth, having to manage his energy levels throughout the race.

“The race today didn’t go so well,” Frijns said. “We started with an issue with the car. We weren’t sure what the issue was. We had to slow down a lot in the first stint to get it back to pit lane. During the second part of the race, we had some inconsistencies in the reporting of the energy levels. This compromised our strategy.”

The team changed Frijns’ eMotor and battery ahead of the race as a precautionary measure which, they said, showed the strength of the team’s speed and ability.

“We had a lot of unexpected component changes on the cars which somewhat compromised our preparation,” said team co-principal, Roger Griffiths. “With this single-day formula it’s hard to recover from early set backs.”

Simona De Silvestro was only able to qualify in 12th. The Swiss driver was on her qualifying lap when an incident ahead of her brought out the yellow flags and slowed her down. Griffiths said, without the incident, De Silvestro would probably have ended up mid-grid.

“Her luck – she’s just not having any of it. We feel for her a bit.”

The race was tough for the Swiss driver. Trying to mix things up in the first stint didn’t benefit her but she did manage to make up a place to finish eleventh.

“Interesting race, I tried to get a little creative in the first stint,” she said. “I tried to go a little longer. It was really difficult and we lost a lot of ground there. So I don’t think that was the thing we should have done, but we’ll learn from it. The second stint was better we had to make up some ground but we had lost a little bit too much time there at the start.”
