Formula E could head to Middle East

Formula E hopes to have its season 3 calendar confirmed by March, but could a Middle Eastern race be on the cards?

“We’re discussing with a couple of venues in the Middle East and some other venues in Asia and some new venues in Europe,” Alejandro Agag told Autosport.

It wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen motorsports head to the Middle East, with Formula 1, the World Endurance Championship, and MotoGP all having races in the area.

Switzerland and Canada have also been talked about as potential additions to the calendar.

“We don’t want to make a revolution of the calendar year on year,” Agag said. “But maybe two new venues are likely.”

The calendar must be submitted by July, but Agag wants to have it in place earlier.

It’s likely Beijing will remain the opening race of the season, as we’ve seen in seasons one and two.

“We’re going to try do October to July. Unless we have to [change it] because the weather in Beijing gets difficult later on.”
