Double DNF for Aguri

It was a race to forget for Team Aguri. Both drivers missed opportunities to score big in Argentina and neither managed to take the chequered flag.

Problems started early on for the team. Whilst returning race winner Antonio Felix Da Costa managed to make it to the Super Pole round, Salvador Duran crashed during qualifying, meaning he would start the race from the penultimate slot on the grid.

Da Costa’s Super Pole lap saw him only a hundredth of a second behind e.dam’s Nico Prost, and the Portuguese driver recorded a personal best in qualifying to start on the second row of the grid.

Da Costa took the challenge to Prost in the race, and then to Bird in first once he’d passed the e.dams driver, but a “software issue” caused an early end to his promising race.

“With half a lap to go until our scheduled pit stop, the car broke down with a software issue,” he said. “Sadly this is the second time we have been in a position to claim a podium and have come away without one, but the team is improving massively. We’ll look into the issue and will come back stronger.”

There was even more disappointment in the race for Duran, returning to Formula E ahead of his home race in Mexico next round.

Duran was moving up the grid after starting in 17th when he was forced to retire just ahead of the pit stop window.

“It was a difficult race for us,” said Duran. “We managed to put together some great energy saving laps for later in the race but we started to lose regen, which affected braking in the rear. I’m already looking ahead to the next round, my home race in Mexico.”

There will be a lot of pressure for Aguri to make improvements ahead of the home race. The team say they’ve made improvements in the car, and have the pace to run at the front, but more work will be done before the team arrive in Mexico.
