Heidfeld overcomes injury to claim points

Nick Heidfeld returned to Formula E in Buenos Aires, having missed the Punta Del Este ePrix, and went on to register a well-earned seventh place.

Heidfeld had sustained ligament damage while catching a huge slide in the Putrajaya ePrix, with the force of the steering wheel putting too much strain on his hand. As a result of the incident, surgery was required meaning the German was forced out of action.

His recovery meant that he was replaced for the following round in Punta del Este by reigning Formula Renault 3.5 champion Oliver Rowland, but a return to the M2Electro in Buenos Aires saw Heidfeld defy the odds to claim a points finish, despite the team having called in Irish race Adam Carroll on standby in case the #23 driver aggravated his injury.

The German was highly satisfied with the weekend as he acknowledged the difficulties at hand and also praised Carroll’s presence with the team.

“Of course, we will always aim to finish higher than P7 but it is great to score points on my return,” said Heidfeld.

“A few weeks ago, I could do very little with my hand and I’m thrilled that I could get back into the car and push straight away. Double points is a solid result for us. And now that I am fit and back in the car I aim to build on that. I would also like to thank Adam Carroll for his support throughout the weekend as a standby should I have felt unable to race.”

The Mahindra racer now looks forward to the next ePrix, where Mexico City makes its first appearance on the calendar, and the German can hope to add to his tally of two podiums in the series.
