Closed Circuit: Venturi in Paris

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

It was a day of potential for the Venturi team, as Stephane Sarrazin continued his point scoring run after his maiden podium in Long Beach, while Mike Conway looked to be a contender until an unfortunate accident in qualifying scuppered his day.

The Venturi team looked as if there were on course to put in a tremendous team performance in Paris, as Sarrazin came to his home ePrix having scored in every round of the season so far, while Conway was finally getting to grips with the Formula E car and ended up topping FP2 ahead of Jean-Eric Vergne and eventual pole sitter Sam Bird.

While Sarrazin went in to compete in the Super Pole session for the fourth time out of seven races this season, Conway endured a miserable time in qualifying as, while the Englishman was on a quick lap, Nick Heidfeld span into the final corner and pulled out into the path of the Venturi. The scattered debris caused a red flag and gave Conway a chance to rejoin the session, but his second car was not charged enough, thus ending his qualifying.

Sarrazin came to his home ePrix looking to go one better from his second place finish in Long Beach, but it wasn’t to be the case as a problem with his first car left the Frenchman trailing behind the leaders, with a fifth place a satisfactory result.

It was a day of ‘what if?’ for Conway, as a collision with Nick Heidfeld in qualifying put pay to the promising pace shown in practice. The Englishman could never recover from starting at the back, and left Paris without adding to his tally from Long Beach.
