Nicolas Prost was the fastest man on track in the opening session of the London ePrix weekend. The Renault e.dams man lapped the track at Battersea Park in 1:25.399, three tenths quicker than Loic Duval (Dragon Racing). Prost’s team mate Sebastien Buemi finished the session in third place after holding the top spot in the early stages of the session.

ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport duo Daniel Abt and Lucas di Grassi were the fourth- and fifth-fastest drivers so far. Abt jumped up the order with a lap of 1:25.742 around the halfway mark of the session, while Di Grassi had moved up and down the top ten before his final effort saw him settle down in fifth place.

Nelson Piquet Jr. (NEXTEV TCR) spent most of the session hanging around the lower reaches of the top ten as well with a time of 1:26.200 as his best laptime, edging past team mate Oliver Turvey in the dying minutes of the session and beating the Brit by 24 hundredths of a second.

Sam Bird (DS Virgin Racing) spent the first half of the session sharing the top of the time sheet with the Renault e.dams duo; however, in the final stage of the session he was demoted to eighth place. The Venturi drivers Mike Conway and Stephane Sarrazin round out the top ten.

Robin Frijns (Andretti) seemed to have a promising free practice session, putting his car on the fifth place halfway through the session, but he pushed just a bit too hard and his session ended in the wall. He was classified in 13th place behind Antonio Felix da Costa (Team Aguri) and Jerome D’Ambrosio (Dragon Racing). Jean-Eric Vergne also had an underwhelming performance, finishing in 14th place ahead of Simona de Silvestro (Andretti), the Mahindra cars of Nick Heidfeld and Bruno Senna, as well as Qing Hua Ma (Team Aguri).
