French driver Jean-Eric Vergne will be racing with the newly-branded Techeetah Formula E team for season three, with Chinese driver Ma Qing Hua confirmed to alongside the Frenchman.

Vergne spent season two with DS Virgin Racing and confirmed at the London ePrix that he would be moving teams. Rumours had been swirling that he would make the move to Techeetah, formerly Team Aguri, and the team confirmed today that the Frenchman would indeed partner Ma.

SECA CEO, Sheng Li, who owns the team that will be taking over from Team Aguri, has said bringing a European “star driver” will help the team to connect with European fans. Li also went on to praise the marketing opportunities of Formula E.

“Racing in Formula E opens up marketing, R&D and fan engagement possibilities for global and Chinese brands. Techeetah Formula E Team is a global team with unique access to Chinese and European fans through our two star drivers next year.”

Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag echoed the thoughts of Li, citing the importance of China to the sport.

“Formula E is very happy to welcome the new Team Techeetah, backed by SECA, to our Championship. China is one of the big priorities of this Championship. Our first race ever took place in Beijing, and the country is doing great efforts towards electrification of mobility. We will work together with SECA and our Chinese partners to expand Formula E in China, and reach out to millions of potential new fans.”
