José María López sampled the DS Virgin Racing Formula E car at the Guadix circuit for the first time last week – and courtesy of Citroën Argentina and DS Argentina, you can now watch footage of that test.

Speaking after the test, the Argentine driver – who has been announced as Sam Bird’s team-mate for season 3 of the all-electric single seater championship – said he was glad to remain with Groupe PSA (comprising the Peugeot, Citroën and DS Automobiles brands) with whom he competes in the WTCC.

“I’m very happy to remain at this group PSA, that makes me really happy. To go from Citroen to DS allowed me to keep linked to the PSA group, some time ago it was assured I was leaving due to Citroen’s withdrawal from WTCC. As soon as this chance came, I decided to take it, in order to stay with these people. It’s the group that gave me the chance to be back in international racing representing my flag, which makes me really happy.”

He is delighted to be racing in single seaters once again, with his last competitive race coming in the GP2 Series back in 2006 – ten years ago.

“My sensations are really nice, it’s like returning to my first love. Driving in single-seaters always brought me back many beautiful memories, and getting into a Formula E car does so.”

Both he and the DS Virgin Racing team are looking forward to a challenging season ahead.

“The team’s testing plan will be to spend the available days we have before joining the official sessions in Donington, in August and September, in order to head to Hong Kong for the start.

“Formula E is a very nice challenge, because its way of being, and also to be back in single-seaters. The drivers’ level is really high, and also, it’s a very competitive series, with very exciting races. It’s a difficult and important challenge.

“The driver level represents a whole challenge, particularly because there are many ex F1, some from WEC and F1 test-drivers as well. It’s a higher level than WTCC.”
