Monteiro tests for Mahindra Racing

World Touring Car Championship driver Tiago Monteiro was spotted testing with Mahindra Racing at the Circuit de Calafat in Spain last week, according to TouringCarTimes. Will the Portuguese be the next WTCC driver to join the all-electric series?

The WTCC front runner tested the Spark-Renault SRT-01E car at the Circuit de Calafat, and would be expected to replace Bruno Senna at the Indian team if he were to switch to Formula E next season. Monteiro is the latest WTCC driver to eye a seat in Formula E, though the Portuguese driver has confirmed his focus remains on the touring car scene.

The Portuguese is currently battling DS Virgin Racing’s newest signing Jose-Maria Lopez for the title in the WTCC. The latter has been announced as Jean-Eric Vergne’s replacement just a few weeks back and has already gotten his first taste of the Formula E car. Nevertheless, both are still concentrating on the task ahead in the touring car world championship: while Lopez is leading the championship with 101 points, Monteiro is still highly motivated to catch the two-time world champion.
