Senna could end Formula E career

Bruno Senna has admitted that his options for his motor racing career lie outside of Formula E, as the Brazilian looks to continue with his World Endurance Championship and GT3 duties.

The 32-year-old has been a part of the all-electric series since the very beginning, signing on with Indian team Mahindra prior to the opening tests of season 1.

Senna achieved his best result of his Formula E career at the last event of season 2 with a podium finish at the London ePrix, but elsewhere has not performed consistently enough to warrant a contract extension, with Motorsport.com reporting that the team are to announce a replacement driver to partner Nick Heidfeld later this month.

“We don’t know yet. I’ve been chatting around, things look like they are going one way and then they change around,” Senna told Motorsport.com. “I’ll be honest, I’m focussed on doing WEC, and McLaren has also grown a lot on my schedule. They’ve expressed that they want to continue next year with an expansion of plans.

“So if Formula E isn’t confirmed, the other things I have are going to take priority. I should know in the next couple of weeks if I’m doing Formula E or not, and with whom if I am doing it, but I’m pretty relaxed about it.”

Senna is believed to be one of many drivers to have been approached by Jaguar regarding a drive next season, but his duty to McLaren in its GT3 programme could put pay to any involvement with Formula E’s newest team.

“I’m with McLaren – so unless my deal with them doesn’t continue, then it’s difficult to be with two competing British brands at the same time,” he said. “It’s of course a very attractive proposition, they are a strong team, and they’ve been developing the car for a while now, probably longer than any other team.

“We’ll see, but I couldn’t be with them and McLaren at the same time.”
