$4.6 million worth of roadworks has been approved by the Montreal council, Ville-Marie, but they haven’t been told which roads will be involved in the development.

The route that the Formula E cars will be racing around next July is still a secret, so making the decision can’t have been easy for the councilors, who will have to manage the disturbances, but borough officials have said the roads would probably have been in need of repair anyway.

“We were given no plans and we have very little information for a big expense,” Valerie Plante, a Projet Montreal councilor, told local paper Montreal Gazette. “I find that very problematic. As a councillor who will have to manage the disturbances that will be caused by the roadwork, I find it unacceptable to make us vote on so little information.”

Plante did vote to approve, the roadworks, on the basis that Formula E will help establish Montreal as a hub of green initiatives.

The road works, which a civil report says will consist of “several interventions and adjustments to the current geometry of the road network” are necessary to make the roads suitable for racing.
