#FEChallenge no. 2: talking favourites

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

For our second #FEChallenge we asked our readers to tell us who their favourite drivers are and why. See what they had to say below.

Christian: My favourite driver is Daniel Abt. I love supporting underdogs and in my opinion he is one. And he is German as well, so…

Sven: Daniel Abt. Why?

1. He’s such a likable person. Funny, says what he thinks, the kind of person you’d like to drink a beer with after work.

2. He always bounces back. His time in the GP2 was everything but easy. After his first season in FE he’s now starting to gain the laurels. And not only in FE he shows an upward curve, also in the ADAC GT Masters where achieved a 2nd place in his latest race (after an DNS after driving on pole in R1 due to a technical failure).

3. I don’t know any driver who invests so much time for fans. YouTube streams and videos, Facebook livestreams, VLogs…he’s trying to answer as many questions as possible, tries to meet up with fans at circuits or events. I remember a scene at the Berlin ePrix where he climbed a fence for a woman “just” to take a photo with her.

Sarah S.: My favourite FE driver is Antonio Felix da Costa. I’ve heard about him since 2009 when he participated in A1GP as Team Portugal’s reserve driver and his progression in 2012 GP3 Series season had caught my attention. I remember that he was the one who requested me to paint a painting of his 2012 Macau Formula 3 GP winning car, which could be hanged at Volkswagen HQ a year later. He could have became an F1 driver in 2014 at Toro Rosso, but I was surprised that he was officially racing in Formula E for Team Aguri besides the fact that he currently juggling his DTM commitments at BMW. No matter how he progresses so far in his career, he is still one of my favourites to support in Formula E.

Jack: my fav driver from Formula E at first was Jaime Alguersuari, i felt he was a decent driver and was unfairly teated at Toro Rosso and his departure from F1. shame he’s retired now, but i completely understand why. Then I met Bruno Senna, one of the friendliest guys I’ve ever met and is a really cool guy. At Donington, he even let me wear his helmet, which is now signed and framed in my bedroom. But my absolute fav is for sure, Nelson Piquet Jr. Yes, 2008 happened, but he seems like a different guy since he was back then. Last year at Battersea, i was the one who gave him the pizza box to sign, and from that, i also won a competition to go to dinner with him, and also i did it again, and he knew me rather well. Nelson is a really cool guy, and is definitely my favourite driver in FIA Formula E.

Sarah C.: My favorite season 2 formula e driver is Simona de Silvestro, but overall? I have to say it was Scott Speed! I try to support every American driver that races in my favorite series. I love watching him in Red Bull GRC, and meeting him in Long Beach in season 1 was a delight – and a great opportunity to do my favorite thing: paint terrible puns on a flag! All of the Andretti drivers have been super personable and fun to follow, really.

Norman: my favourite Formula E driver of all time is of course the unforgotten Ulrich “Ulli” Melkus – the hero of the GDR. Melkus was an astonishing race driver who won Formula E five times (see proof attached)! But his biggest achievement is winning the Pokal für Frieden und Freundschaft der sozialistischen Länder (Cup of peace and friendship of the socialist countries) stunning five times. Unfortunately he died in a road car accident in 1990. To keep his spirit and memory alive, Melkus is my No.1 pick. On a serious note: It’s Jacques.

Eva: I don’t have just ONE favourite in Formula E as I do in F1, but if I have to choose just one, then my fav is Antonio Felix da Costa. He kinda sneaked up on me, to be honest, haha. I knew of him because I used to follow Red Bull Racing very closely (Seb Vettel fan right here), and I knew of his involvement in the team, so I was really excited to learn he would be participating in Formula E. I also have a few friends who are major fans of Antonio, and I guess they influenced me a bit. The truth is that I’ve been voting for him on FanBoost ever since his win at the 2015 Buenos Aires ePrix and I have even started watching DTM, so I can cheer for him there too.

Tom: Simona as she became the first women in Formula E history to score points.

Entries have been edited for grammar and to fit the task of the challenge better. We want to thank all people who took part in this challenge and we hope you take part in the challenges to come as well as we simply love reading your submissions! On a different note, we would like to congratulate Sven whose reasoning behind loving Daniel Abt convinced us most.
