Felix Rosenqvist will be joining Mahindra Racing, racing alongside Nick Heidfeld for season three. The Swedish driver is one of motorsports rising stars, and brings with him backing from Erreà, who will be the team’s official kit supplier.

Rosenqvist, the current European Formula 3 champion, will replace Bruno Senna in Mahindra’s line up. The Swedish driver has currently spent 2016 driving in a range of championships, including Indy Lights and the Blancpain GT Series Sprint and Endurance Cups.

He has described joining Mahindra as a “step into the unknown”, with no previous Formula E experience, though he has been testing Mahindra’s M3Electro in July.

“I’ve had a very warm welcome by Mahindra Racing and I have a strong and experience team-mate in Nick,” Rosenqvist said. “I’ve tested the car already and I look forward to intensifying our preperations during the two pre-season testing at Donington.”

Rosenqvist also said he’s excited about the new calendar, which sees the season kick off in Hong Kong.

Heidfeld will once again race in the team. After delivering the team’s first ever podium in Formula E, Heidfeld finished tenth in the championship.

After finishing fifth in the championship with two podium finishes, Mahindra have set their sights a little higher for the third season.

“In season three of the Formula E championship, we want to maintain the momentum built in season two,” said team principal Dilbagh Gill. “Our first podiums are behind us and our aim is now set much higher. The new M3Electro has undergone extensive testing at the hands of both Nick and Felix in Spain, and we look forward to continuing our car preparations at Donington this week. The M3Electro is an important milestone in our evolution-revolution cycle and reflects our greater ambitions in Formula E.”

Both drivers will drive in the two pre-season tests at Donington Park.
