Rosenqvist positive on official test debut

Formula E rookie Felix Rosenqvist is feeling positive about his pending debut with Mahindra Racing in the Formula E championship, as the reigning European Formula 3 champion looks to get more track time following his private tests with the team.

The Swede, who has raced more recently in the Indy Lights championship in America, joined the all-electric series with Indian team Mahindra Racing and described his first impressions of the series to e-racing.net.

“It’s the first day on the job, everything is new except the team which I’ve already worked with for a few days,” said Rosenqvist. “I’m just getting to know all the new people in the championship, so far so good, I already know quite a lot of drivers and it’s been welcoming so far.

“In the beginning of the series everyone didn’t think it was possible to run full electric, it’s too difficult or too early, and somehow they went through all the criticism and here we are racing. It’s like any other championship, it works and it’s good racing. I think it’s really good that they made it happen.”

Having recently driven a variety of cars, including Formula 3, DTM and Indy Lights, Rosenqvist sees no problems in adapting to the new challenges associated with Formula E.

“Feeling wise, it’s very different. It’s heavy, relatively low on power and electric, which is for sure very different. The actual way you drive is very similar to Indy Lights or F3, your brain adapts easily to the weight and differences of the car and the rest you do mathematically. When you’re out there in the car pushing for a quick lap I don’t feel a lot of difference, it’s still a racing car.”

The 24-year-old finished by showing his admiration for childhood hero and now-team mate Nick Heidfeld and feels confident that he can be competitive in his debut season.

“It feels great! He’s very simple to work with, if I ask him something he will let me know and the same thing goes for me, we have a very solid relationship already when it comes to developing the car together and he’s a cool guy to hang around with.”

“First of all I will have to learn a few things, especially when it comes to racecraft. I would like to be around the top ten in terms of pure pace, but not knowing any circuits will not help me. I feel quite confident anyway, so hopefully by the end of the year I can be a contender.”
