Stoneman impressed by Formula E

Dean Stoneman was left pleasantly surprised by the capabilities of a Formula E car after making his test debut with the NextEV team on the final day of testing at Donington Park.

The Englishman was called up by NextEV to pilot the NEXTEV TCR Formula 002 machine and ended the day 16th fastest, although changeable conditions meant that Stoneman could have finished higher up the order.

The former Red Bull junior was left in awe of the technologies at play in the vehicle.

“To be honest I didn’t expect it to be like what it was, it was a great car!” said Stoneman. “To be given an opportunity by NextEV at Donington was a great opportunity but I didn’t expect the car to be where it was at. It was a quick car and it gives good feedback for what it is, it’s amazing with the energy saving and race runs, how you develop over a race stint and I did two race stints to day and I managed them very well.

“The team were happy with my race runs and hopefully we can move on into the future with the team.”

Stoneman admitted to being in talks with the team over an official test role, and would relish the opportunity to take a race seat if it were to come up.

“You never know. We’re in talks and hopefully we can do something in the future. My manager Allan McNish has been talking to the team for a little while now so hopefully we can maximise today and move on into the future.

“I would take the opportunity to race in the series and show my potential, hopefully that comes up soon.”
