Piquet Jr certain of better season ahead

Nelson Piquet Jr believes the NextEV team will have a much more competitive season three, having gone from championship glory in season one to a lowly 15th place in season two.

The Brazilian driver endured a frustrating second season in the all-electric series, finishing in the points only twice as he handed over his crown to Renault e.dams driver Sebastien Buemi.

With pre-season testing completed, Piquet Jr sees season three as a chance for the team to be rewarded for their hard work as he and continuing team-mate Oliver Turvey look to return to the sharp end of the grid.

“We have definitely made an improvement from last season and there has been a lot of hard work put into the new season three car. We’ve done 21 days of testing in total, made up of 15 days private testing at Calafat in Spain and then the six championship test days at Donington in the UK.”

“We’re essentially starting from scratch this year. We have a new car and also a brand new team. NextEV has put a lot of resource into making the best team possible, taking the operations in house. A lot of the previous staff were supplied by race outfit Campos, so for this season almost all the team personnel has changed. We’re effectively an all-new outfit heading into season three. We really are starting from square one.”

“I think the competition will keep getting harder every season. All the teams keep learning new things about this technology and the more that individual teams can develop on their own, the more competition will be created. “

“I absolutely loved the track in Paris last season so I’m looking forward to going back there with a more competitive package. I’m also keen to get out onto all the new tracks as we have some amazing new additions to the calendar. I think everyone is very excited about New York as the season finale, that’s going to be very special to race with the Manhattan skyline in the background.”

“We had such a hard second season, so the team has put a huge amount of effort for a long time into making this new car the best possible. If results were dependent on how hard we are working and how much we effort and emotion we’ve put into season three, then I’m hoping that we will be celebrating like we were in season one. The whole team deserves victories and good moments. We’ve been preparing hard to get everything squared up as best we can. I’m sure we’re going to have a much better year.”
