Agag wants season four opener in December

After three seasons of starting in October, Formula E is looking for a December season opener for next season, as revealed by Alejandro Agag.

The main objective of this action is to shorten up the long gaps existing between rounds; being the last month of the year the most attractive one to place a slot to kick off the seasons.

This season’s opening round was Hong Kong, a city that the series still wants to stay that way, although Agag admitted to Autosport that the Harbourfront Circuit will not act as the season opener in season four.

“We won’t be racing in Hong Kong in October again,”, said Agag. “We want Hong Kong [as the opening round], we’re looking at delaying it until late November or even the first weekend of December.

“Formula 1 and the other championships are going up to November, so December may fit well.”

Without Punta del Este in the calendar -a round held in December both in S1 and S2, there is an almost three months gap between Marrakesh and Buenos Aires.

The series is looking to schedule races in January and February, months when there is no racing in other series. “We’ll pack the calendar, with much more racing in January and February”, Agag confirmed.

Formula E hosted its very first eRace in Las Vegas earlier this month, with drivers and sim racers taking part in it. It brought action back in the long gap between rounds two and three, in an innovative and successful race that was streamed online worldwide.
