Closed Circuit: Renault e.dams in Buenos Aires

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Renault e.dams maintained a winning start to the 2016/17 Formula E season as reigning champion Sebastien Buemi made it a third victory from three races, while Nico Prost kept things consistent on his side of the garage as he once again came home in fourth place, ensuring that the team kept its lead in the championship.

It looked as if Renault e.dams might have faced some opposition in Buenos Aires, as neither driver topped either of the practice sessions and Buemi could only manage third on the grid as the ABT Schaeffler of Lucas di Grassi and the Techeetah of Jean-Eric Vergne looked to end the reigning champion’s streak of victories.

The race proved to be a different matter as Buemi passed di Grassi for second before making a move on Vergne for a lead which he would never relinquish.

Prost was once again anonymous but strong as he picked up a third consecutive fourth place finish to keep himself in contention for the title. The Frenchman hasn’t challenged for a victory yet, but just remember Esteban Ocon’s season when he won the GP3 championship…

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]“Today’s victory was very important for us and Séb, Nico and the team delivered superbly. Renault has many Argentinean fans who came to the ePrix so it was great to reward them with a fantastic win. The fans here are really passionate and appreciate our success, and this gives credibility to Renault’s electric vehicle technology. It’s a big market for Renault in Argentina so what we achieved today has been very rewarding for the team.[/perfectpullquote]

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]It is very impressive how the team works so well together at the moment and that is also a reason why we are performing well. We also have a strong partner in HP who support us with their latest technology which has really proved beneficial in this highly competitive environment. I was really happy to see how everything went today and how we managed to control the day. It is important that we keep this momentum going for the rest of the season.”

Is there any stopping Buemi? There was a glimmer of hope when di Grassi and Vergne kept the reigning champion off the front row of the grid but there was no contest in the race as Buemi romped to a third win of the season.

The Swiss driver put the disappointment of qualifying behind and got his head down as he picked off his rivals in a controlled manner to take the lead and with it his ninth series victory.

There is no doubt that Buemi is the red hot favourite to take the title for a second time this year, and if Buenos Aires is anything to go by then it will take something special for him to be beaten.

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”It’s been a very good weekend and to end with a win is an amazing feeling. I think I had a better start than Jean-Eric, but I didn’t try to really attack him in the first corner. I stayed in P2 for a few laps just to work out our relative pace. When I saw I was a little bit quicker than him, I took the opportunity.[/perfectpullquote]

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”After that the car ran faultlessly and there were no issues with the pit stop as the team did a great job. As a driver, I am very happy because I didn’t make any mistakes. To score as many points as possible was really important this weekend and it’s good to have three wins in a row this season. Of course, the points for pole position are missing but in the end I am more than happy with the result.”[/perfectpullquote]

It was another quiet race for Prost as he kept his nose clean in the midst of the points battles and eventually came home with a third consecutive fourth place finish.

The Frenchman was involved in a train of cars that fought behind the podium finishers in the early stages and crossed the line 1.1s behind di Grassi in third.

Prost’s consistency means he leaves Buenos Aires with third place in the standings and on course to keep the team’s title with Renault e.dams.

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”It was a very good race for me. I lost one place at the start where there was a lot of zig-zagging going on, but after that I chased the cars in front and made some strong overtakes. I was happy with the pace in the first car and overtook Lucas. My second car didn’t feel quite as strong, and he was able to re-take me. I thought we might get the position back after the race, but it wasn’t to be.[/perfectpullquote]

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”It’s a very positive start to the season for me and the team. I’ve lacked a tiny bit in qualifying, so we’re going to look very closely at the set-up as that has previously been a strength for me. If I can find just a little bit more pace in qualifying I’ll be very happy; that’s the target for Mexico.”[/perfectpullquote]
