In only its third race since debuting in Hong Kong earlier this season, Panasonic Jaguar Racing showed good progress despite some technical issues for Adam Carroll, while Mitch Evans scored the team’s best qualifying result so far.

As the newbie on the grid, Jaguar Panasonic Racing is fast catching up to its seniors in the Formula E Championship, showing consistent progress in the first three rounds of season three.

The British team managed to land their first top ten spot in qualifying in only its third race. The team has also shown good energy management as Mitch Evans powered his way through the grid alongside the championship front runners Renault e.Dams and Mahindra Racing in the early stages of the race.

A very narrow miss on points, however, proved to be a disappointing finish for the team but can be used as proof that the Buenos Aires ePrix was by far the British team’s strongest race so far.

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”This was our best qualifying result this season. A really great job by everyone in the team for making positive steps forward since our last race in Marrakesh in November. Things have truly come together and Mitch did really well managing to run with the front pack. The team should be really proud of what we have achieved today as we moved the performance forward and bridged the gap to the other teams. We have achieved a lot in only three races.[/perfectpullquote]

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”As always, we are here to improve, especially now in our first year of the championship, our learning year. It was a real shame for Adam to have an issue at the start and it was a huge fight to get back and catch up with the rest of the pack but he did a great job. This gave us the chance to try a few different set ups which is great for data capture. In summary we are moving in the right directions and can’t wait for our next race in Mexico.”

The New Zealander put together a stellar drive during qualifying, landing him in P7 on the grid, giving Jaguar its first ever top ten position.

Evans had put up a good fight as he battled head on with championship front runners Nico Prost of Renault e.Dams and Mahindra’s Felix Rosenqvist but struggled to remain in his position and dropped to P9.

The second stint, however, proved to be a bit more of a struggle for Evans as he faced issues with energy management, dropping him to P13 and narrowly missing out on the team’s first ever points finish.

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”It was great to come away from qualifying feeling satisfied with our performance. The team has worked really hard to make progress. We’ve made a really good step forward and that is evident from the result in qualifying.[/perfectpullquote]

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”The first half of the race was good but I got a bit shuffled around in the beginning which meant that I lost two places which was a bit disappointing, but then the full course yellow neutralised everything and I made up a few places. After that I was running with the front guys. I was happy with the pace and the energy management was going according to plan.[/perfectpullquote]

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]I was looking forward to holding my position in the second stint, but unfortunately I was struggling to manage the energy for some reason and couldn’t push as hard as before. I dropped four places and ended up just out of the points. It was really disappointing not to come away with our first points but it just wasn’t meant to be this time. I’m really looking forward to Mexico and this weekend has been a really good motivator for the whole team and a good confidence builder. We will build on that and keep improving as a team.”[/perfectpullquote]

The third round of the championship proved to be a tough one for Carroll as he faced problems with his I-TYPE during qualifying which landed him P15 on the grid.

The Northern Irishman later faced even more technical issues when his car as it failed to launch during the start of the race. He later managed to power it up but the glitch led him to start a lap down from the rest of the field.

Although finishing in P17, Carroll tried to make the best out of the opportunity by collecting valuable data for the team to progress forward on to the next round in Mexico.

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”Today was tough. The start of the day was promising, we just lost our way a little bit in the second practice as we wanted to keep the car safe for qualifying and not risk anything. We got a lot of good data out of it but unfortunately no result this time.”[/perfectpullquote]
