Closed Circuit: MS Amlin Andretti in Buenos Aires

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

The Puerto Madero street circuit wasn’t kind to both of the Andretti drivers. Since the early morning sessions, both drivers struggled to find good pace and now aim to get the results expected on Mexican soil next April.

After a fruitful first race in Hong Kong with both drivers in the top ten, the team had a disappointing weekend in Marrakesh as neither of its drivers scored points. Hopes for Buenos Aires were high, as it is the track where Antonio Felix da Costa had his only Formula E race win to date back in 2015 and Frijns finished in P8 last year. Unfortunately, the team left the Argentinian capital with no points in the bag.

After some issues on da Costa’s car, including a trip to the barrier at turn seven, the Portuguese started from P17 on the grid, whilst team-mate Robin Frijns started from 13th position. Both drivers fought hard throughout the race, but da Costa finished just out of the points in P11 and Frijns ended in P14.

The team highlights the reliabilty the car showed in Buenos Aires and how clean the car swaps were done. Andretti Formula E now goes to Mexico City aiming to prove what both its drivers are capable of and achieving an important result.

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”Pretty disappointed in all honesty with the way the weekend has gone. Historically Buenos Aires has been a circuit that has been kind to us in terms of race results – not to be today. On the positive side, the car ran reliably in the race; no issues and no repeats of some of the problems we saw early on.[/perfectpullquote]

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”Some of the winter development we did has come to fruition, but obviously disappointed we are finishing out of the points. We need to collect our thoughts and work hard over the next few weeks before going to Mexico City”

A crash and the second car stopping on track in FP1 was not the start to the day that Portugal’s Antonio Felix da Costa wanted in the venue where he won two years ago. Due to these issues, he started the race towards the back in P17.

The Portuguese fought hard, aiming to get into the points, after a non-scoring race in Morocco. Unfortunately, he finished just out of the top ten in P11, as local driver José María López overtook him in the closing stages.

The Cascais-based driver now looks forward to next round in Mexico City, where he hopes he can showcase his potential and his team’s in front of a fervent crowd.

Buenos Aires saw Frijns finishing P8 in 2016, making the Dutchman hopeful ahead of this race as he looked to return to the points.

Unfortunately, he could only manage P13 in qualifying after showing some promising pace in practice. He lingered on the brink of the top ten for most of the race, but then dropped places in the standings, eventually seeing the chequered flag in P14.

Frijns now goes to Mexico hoping to deliver a good performance like last year, when he finished fifth at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit in his fruitful rookie season.
