Turvey: “We cannot be happy with our position”

Season three of the FIA Formula E Championship has seen the NextEV NIO team show massive improvements from their lackluste season two, but poor luck and reliability has seen them slip to sixth place in the standings.

Oliver Turvey, who scored pole position in Mexico City and lies tenth in the championship, acknowledged the work put in by the team to bring them back to the sharp end of the grid, but is frustrated at the lack of results, especially after seeing a potential win fall from his grasp in the last round.

A previous race winner in the Principality, albeit in a different series, the Englishman expressed his delight at returning to Monaco and remains optimistic about his chances of getting his season back underway.

“I am really excited to be going back to race in Monaco, I have special memories of winning on my Monaco debut in the World Series 3.5. It’s a very unique track, with an amazing atmosphere around the harbour. I have always enjoyed driving on the famous streets of Monaco so I am confident of achieving a strong result for the team.”

“In Formula E the circuit races around the harbor so it’s a slightly different track to learn. I do have experience of the swimming pool and Rascasse sections of the track though, so they will be familiar. I’m really excited to get there and out on track.”

“There are always many challenges over a Formula E race weekend. Firstly, I will need to learn the track in the opening Free Practice session, then qualifying towards the front will be crucial for the race where managing the energy and running a good strategy will be the most important.”

“Not much, I will prepare as usual and I am looking forward to racing in Monaco and Paris over consecutive weekends. I will travel back to the UK on the Sunday to spend some time at the factory with the engineers in the simulator to prepare for the following race weekend.”

“I am happy with the progress we have made between last season and this year in season three, we have a much more competitive package thanks to all the effort of the team. We have shown our speed in the opening four races, having started on the front row twice and achieved a pole position in Mexico, but the team and I want to be fighting for the championship so we cannot be happy with our position especially as we haven’t scored all the points possible. I am confident that we will be able to keep on improving and get stronger to move forwards this year.”
