A second consecutive podium finish coupled with the team’s best collective result brought Mahindra Racing back into third in the standings and helped Nick Heidfeld pass Jean-Eric Vergne for fourth in the driver’s standings.

It was a day of celebration for the Mahindra Racing squad, with both Heidfeld and Felix Rosenqvist putting in superlative drives to come home third and fourth, the team’s best joint result in its history.

Locking out the third row of the grid, both drivers were able to quickly dispatch the Techeetah of Esteban Gutierrez before benefiting from Vergne’s crash to be running with both cars in the top four.

The 27 points scored collectively by Heidfeld and Rosenqvist moves them 24 points clear of DS Virgin Racing for third in the standings and cements the vast improvements made to the car since season two.

Fresh from his second podium of the season in Monaco, Heidfeld put the disappointment of missing out on Super Pole by 0.014s behind him and kept his head to claim yet another podium for the Mahindra Racing squad.

The German lined up fifth on the grid following Oliver Turvey’s grid drop and move up into fourth place on the opening lap, before benefiting from Vergne’s trip into the barrier to move up to third and his second podium in succession.

The result means that Heidfeld is now fourth in the drivers’ championship, only 11 points behind the Renault e.dams of Nico Prost and in with a very strong chance of breaking into the top three later in the season.

This is one of the best circuits of the season and you simply cannot beat the surroundings. It was another exciting race and the good thing is that we were a lot more competitive than we were in Monaco. It was nice to see that I had similar pace to the leaders and had a lot more energy available. I was a bit unlucky with some of the traffic and lost some time, but that’s racing.[/perfectpullquote]

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”It’s a great result for the team, the best-ever result again – after we already had it in Monaco! We cannot stop working hard until we reach our final target – to win!”[/perfectpullquote]

After being stuck behind Maro Engel’s Venturi for the majority of the Monaco ePrix, Rosenqvist was eager to get back to overtaking mode and he did just that as he moved up from sixth on the grid to a fourth place finish.

The highlight of the Swede’s race came on lap nine as he made a textbook overtake on the Techeetah of Gutierrez, almost collecting the Mexican in the process.

Also aided by Vergne’s demise on lap 34, Rosenqvist followed home his team-mate to complete Mahindra’s best ever result in Formula E and consolidate third place in the teams’ standings.
