Buemi excluded from Berlin race result

Reigning champion and championshp leader Sebastien Buemi has been stripped of his fifth place finish in the first race at the Tempelhof Airport.

The Swiss driver started the race from P14 and made good progress to cross the line in sixth place, promoted to fifth following a five second penalty for the Techeetah of Jean-Eric Vergne.

Now the Renault e.dams driver has been handed a penalty of his own as post-race scrutineering found his car to be running with illegal tyre pressures, enough for Buemi to be excluded from the official classification.

A statement from the race stewards after the race reads as follows:

Failure to comply with the minimum tyre pressure of 1.60 bar.
After the first stint (16.34 hrs.) was 1.46, 1.57, 1.54 and 1.52 bar for each tyre respectively; after race (17.01 hrs.) was 1.54, 1.54, 1.59 and 1.53 bar for each tyre respectively instead of a minimum of 1.60 bar indicated on the MICHELIN FE tyre working range Berlin ePrix 2017.

The decision by the stewards has major implications on the championship, as Lucas di Grassi now has a points gap less than a race win to Buemi ahead of him meaning that, mathematically, the reigning champion could lose his title advantage tomorrow.
