Following on from yesterday’s exclusion, Sebastien Buemi laid down the gauntlet with the fastest lap of the weekend so far in FP1, setting a 1:07.712s.

In a relatively uneventful session, Jose Maria Lopez was the early pace setter as he positioned his DS Virgin Racing machine at the top of the standings with a 1:08.951s. He went on to finish the session in third.

His DSV team-mate Sam Bird made it a 1-2 for the British team for a lengthy period of time, but was shuffled down to seventh as more drivers put in quicker times.

Reigning champion Buemi was the only driver to set a full power 200kW lap, meaning that his gap of 1.145s to Maro Engel’s Venturi in second isn’t representative at this time.

Lucas di Grassi and yesterday’s race winner Felix Rosenqvist left it late to venture out onto the circuit, not seen on track until around the halfway mark but both put in solid laptimes to go fourth and fifth respectively.

The top ten was rounded out by Jean-Eric Vergne, Bird, Nick Heidfeld, Stephane Sarrazin and Nico Prost.
