Sebastien Buemi set the early pace in Punta Del Este smashing the fastest lap time that he set in season two by a whole four-tenths of a second, further reiterating to his rivals about his form around the track he’s won both times.
The session was fairly quiet and relatively free-flowing apart from Rosenqvist spinning out at turn 8 and just missing contact with the wall and drivers finding their limits with kerbs on the corners throughout the session.
The lap times dropped as the session went on, going from a 1:16.0 in the early stages to the low 1:14’s that were set by Buemi, Evans and Di Grassi respectively with time still to gain in the practice two as drivers experiment with 200kW laps.
Other track action involved Renault’s Buemi go into the pits with bits of his rear wing missing
Rosenqvist, Lynn and Da Costa all attempted a 200kW lap but were unable to set a representative lap time between them.
Evans stopped at pit entry with just over 10 minutes to go and with just 5 minutes to go, he was pushed back into the pit lane to the Jaguar garage by the marshals.
The Kiwi was going to go purple just in the dying moments of the session before finding himself victim to traffic with Filippi at the last corner which subsequently saw him reach the chequered flag three tenths behind Buemi.
Evans was followed by Di Grassi, Lynn, Vergne, Bird, Piquet and NIO’s Turvey who were all separated by half a second. The top ten was rounded out by Audi’s Daniel Abt and Renault’s Nico Prost.
