Di Grassi answers critics in Punta Del Este FP2

The reigning champion of Formula E has led second practice session ahead of the Punta del Este ePrix in the Uruguayan streets. He was followed by DS Virgin Racing’s Sam Bird and Panasonic Jaguar Racing’s Mitch Evans.

Lucas Di Grassi (Audi Sport) has led Free Practice 2 in Uruguay, ahead of ABB FIA Formula E Championship’s Punta del Este ePrix. The Brazilian driver set 1:13.672, ahead of Sam Bird (DS Virgin Racing) and Mitch Evans (Panasonic Jaguar Racing).

Drivers went quickly for their 200kW laps, Oliver Turvey taking the lead with 1:14.321, followed by Jean-Eric Vergne (Techeetah) and Bird.

The first red flag was shown when Tom Blomqvist (MS&AD Andretti Racing) hit the barrier at Turn 10. A bit of oversteering made him loose the read-end and crashed into the wall, heavily damaging his rear left suspension and causing the drive train to fall out of his car onto the track.

The session was resumed after 5 minutes, with Di Grassi jumping to the top on an impressive 1:13.672 lap, followed by Turvey and Vergne.

Meanwhile, Mitch Evans climbed up to third in the last minutes, dropping Turvey back to fourth place. Bird finished in second behind Di Grassi. Nicolas Prost was fifth fastest in his e.Dams Renault.

Vergne was sixth, Edoardo Mortara (Venturi), Nick Heidfeld (Mahindra), Blomqvist and Alex Lynn (DS Virgin Racing) rounded up the Top 10. Nine teams ended up in the first nine places.
