Punta del Este E-Prix Facts and Figures

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The ABB Formula E Championship ended its journey through the Americas with a return to the Uruguayan city of Punta del Este. Championship leader Jean-Eric Vergne took a narrow victory, his second of the season, after holding off reigning champion Lucas di Grassi. We now take a look at the facts and figures behind the days racing in Punta del Este.

  • Jose Maria Lopez led Lap 20 during the pit stop phase, as a result, every team has now led a lap this season, with this now being the first season where this has happened. However, each team has only had one of its driver lead a lap, as only ten drivers have led a lap this season.
  • With Sebastien Buemi retiring late on and Nico Prost coming home in 15th, Renault e.dams failed to pick up any points for the first time in their history, ending a streak of 38 races.
  • With the 28 points that Vergne claimed, he has now extended his points streak to 11 races, the longest current streak on the grid. Felix Rosenqvist has the second longest points streak at only five races.
  • Vergne and di Grassi spent the race so close together that the largest gap between them was only 2.044 seconds at the end of Lap 20 after di Grassi made a mistake when attempting to overtake Vergne.
  • The ABB Formula E Championship has now ended it’s journey though the Americas, and over the last three races Jean-Eric Vergne has been the run away scorer, scoring 66 points, with Sebastien Buemi coming in second with only 30. Could these three races have be the turning point in the championship battle?

This race was the first time since London Race One Season 2, where at least one driver has not moved four or more places on the opening lap.

NIO driver Luca Filippi was able to find space on the outside of the Turn 1 to gain the most positions on Lap 1, the first time the Italian has been the biggest mover on the opening lap.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=”Overall Position changes” title_align=”separator_align_left” color=”custom” accent_color=”#5da73c”][rrj_bar_chart title=”” labels=”EVA;LOP;FRO;BIR;PRO;BLO;FIL;DAM;VER;DIG;DAC;ENG;LYN;TUR;HEI;MOR;LOT;PIQ;ABT;BUE” datasets=”%5B%7B%22title%22%3A%22Punta%20del%20Este%22%2C%22tooltips_format%22%3A%22%7Bd%7D%3A%20%7By%7D%22%2C%22values%22%3A%2212%3B10%3B7%3B6%3B4%3B4%3B2%3B1%3B0%3B0%3B0%3B-2%3B-3%3B-3%3B-3%3B-4%3B-5%3B-5%3B-9%3B-12%22%2C%22color%22%3A%22%230085ba%22%2C%22bar_bg%22%3A%22transparent%22%7D%5D” legend=””][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]After both being sent to the back of the grid for technical infringements in qualifying, Mitch Evans and Jose Maria Lopez both had work to do in the race. Both were able to fight through the field and gain 22 positions between them, with Evans being the biggest mover, for the second time in the last three races. The 12 positions gained in Punta del Este takes the Kiwi’s season tally up to 37, almost double the next driver of Edoardo Mortara on 21.

After the last three races seemed to put his possible title challenge back on track, Sebastien Buemi came away from Punta del Este with zero points. After losing 12 positions and being over two race wins behind championship leader Vergne, Buemi’s title charge seems to be over.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=”Fastest laps” title_align=”separator_align_left” color=”custom” accent_color=”#5da73c”][mpc_progress and d’Ambrosio, set the two fastest laps of the races, the first time this season a team has achieved this. Jose Maria Lopez also claimed the point that came with fastest lap, becoming the sixth driver to do so this season.

In what became more and more obvious as the race day progressed was the tightness of the field, with five teams in the top five of Practice One, nine teams in the top nine of Practice Two and eight of the ten teams scoring points. This can also be seen from the fact that the fastest laps of the ten teams were split by only 0.708 seconds.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
