Heidfeld’s top dining spots in Zurich
Swiss resident, Mahindra driver and Formula E’s very own resident foodie, Nick Heidfeld dishes out on his favourite places to dine in Zurich.
What are some of your favourite restaurants in Zurich?
There are many good Restaurants in Zurich. My favorite for fine dining are The Restaurant at the Dolder Grand Hotel as well as Restaurant Ecco at Atlantis by Giardino Hotel.
What was a recent impressive meal you had there?
An absolute highlight a few weeks ago was the desert truffle at Ecco! For more of a Swiss classics direction, I would recommend the Restaurant Kindli in beautiful old city center of Zurich. They also serve international classics in a simple and pure form.
Best place for late night drinks?
If it is about quality of cocktails, it is the Felix Bar on Kalkbreitestrasse 8. But there are many more (cocktail) bars in Zurich.
Which drink would you recommend from there?
For the pure taste, I really enjoyed The Old Fashioned – although I wouldn’t finish a whole glass because of its strength and strong taste. I recommend to speak to the bartenders as they love their drinks and will find the best one for your taste.
What has been your ultimate culinary experience in Switzerland?
Easy. The Restaurant Schloss Schauenstein, which is near Chur and a good one hour 30 minutes drive from Zurich. For me, it is not only the best restaurant in Switzerland, but the best in the world.
What’s your signature dish to cook?
I don’t cook a lot. When I get (even) older, I hope to find time to do this. Me and – more importantly – a friend of mine who also is a chef did a dish last year. But signature dish? No, I only made it once so far. It was sliced scallop with black Alba truffle butter sauce on toasted nut bread.
