Ma to stand in for Turvey in season finale

Ma Qing Hua will step up to a race seat for the season-ending second New York race, following the news of Oliver Turvey’s withdrawal from the weekend.

The NIO reserve driver is already in New York with the team on standby, fulfilling his contracted role of reserve driver and working with the team behind-the-scenes.

With Turvey injured in a heavy FP2 shunt, Ma will don his helmet for the second race and drive alongside Luca Filippi, who the Chinese driver replaced for one round in Paris earlier this season.

A statement from the team read: “The NIO Formula E Team confirms that #16 NIO 003 driver Oliver Turvey has sustained a fracture in his fifth metacarpal (little finger) on his left hand as a result of the incident during the second practice session of Round 11 of the New York ePrix today.

“NIO Formula E Reserve Driver, Ma Qing Hua, shall now compete in Round 12 of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship tomorrow at Red Hook Circuit in Oliver’s place.”
