Sims continues strong form in afternoon session

Alexander Sims picked up where he left off in the afternoon session, taking the fastest time having gone quickest in the morning. Andre Lotterer put his Techeetah second fastest to deny BMW a second consecutive 1-2 finish, with Antonio Felix da Costa ending third.

Jerome d’Ambrosio topped the times early on in the three hour session before other drivers started to turn it up towards the end, da Costa usurping the Belgian of P1 before Lotterer set a 1:17.791s and took over at the head of the field.

Lotterer looked set to end P1, before Sims laid down a new fastest time of the day with less than ten minutes remaining of the session.

Lucas di Grassi and Daniel Abt both showed well for Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler, taking the fourth and fifth fastest times respectively, while d’Ambrosio finished in sixth.

The only red flag of the afternoon came when the Nissan e.dams of Sebastien Buemi came to a halt at turn 11, but the stoppage was only brief after the season two champion was able to reset his car and return to the pits.
