Jani announced at Porsche for season six

Neel Jani will return to a Formula E cockpit following his announcement with the incoming Porsche Formula E squad, who will join the all-electric series in season six.

Jani made his Formula E debut with Dragon Racing at the start of season four, competing in the season-opening double header round in Hong Kong before leaving the team, taking 18th place in both races.

The Swiss has been affiliated with Porsche since 2014 due to his participation in the World Endurance Championship and became champion alongside Marc Lieb and Romain Dumas in 2016, whilst winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the same year.

His Porsche connection will continue into Formula E when the German marque enters the series next year, with his team-mate yet to be announced.

“I’m very much looking forward to the new task,” said Jani. “Being part of an entirely new Porsche Motorsport programme for the second time, right from the beginning, means a lot to me.

“The technical and driving challenges are huge and our strong Formula E opponents have a significant advantage in experience. There is a lot of work ahead of us and I can’t wait for the roll-out.”

The team believes that the 34-year-old will be suited perfectly to the demands of Formula E.

“Without doubt, Neel is the right man for our new technologically trendsetting programme,” says Fritz Enzinger, Vice President Porsche Motorsport. “Not only does he contribute speed, but he has a huge amount of single seater experience. He has already driven in Formula E and is well established in Weissach as a development driver.”
