Closed Circuit: Dragon Racing in Hong Kong

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

It was a day of ups and downs for the Faraday Future Dragon Racing team, as Loic Duval showed strong pace before being let down by a mechanical fault, while Jerome d’Ambrosio recovered from a disappointing qualifying session to bring points home.

The newly-rebranded Faraday Future Dragon Racing had hoped that their new “polarity” livery would bring the American team some luck as they began their chase for the season three title, however not everything went according to plan.

Duval had a satisfactory qualifying session, lapping the circuit half a second slower than pole-sitter Nelson Piquet Jr and taking eighth in the process, although this became 11th following a grid penalty. On the other side of the garage, d’Ambrosio was left languishing in 18th place with a mountain to climb if he was to take anything away from the race.

The race proved a more promising affair as d’Ambrosio benefited from the safety car to rise up the order to seventh, while Duval ran as high as fifth before a brake problem in his second car dropped the Frenchman out of the points.

Qualifying saw the 34-year-old take the eighth fastest time and only half a second away from the pole time, however Duval was handed a three place grid drop for speeding under red flags conditions in the shakedown.   Duval showed good pace to work his way into fifth place during the first stint, however his second car was suffering from a brake issue which hampered any further progress, with Duval dropping out of the points into a lowly 14th place, two laps down on race winner Sebastien Buemi. Following a disappointing qualifying where the Belgian could only manage 18th on the grid, d’Ambrosio made up for it by rising up the order and taking six points with a seventh place finish.

With the aid of the safety car and an aggressive drive, d’Ambrosio showed what the potential of the Dragon car might be and how competitive the team could be with a better qualifying, with the Belgian looking to take his third Formula E victory as the season progresses.
