Battersea Park keeps London ePrix

The 2016 London ePrix will once again be hosted by Battersea Park, following a local council vote to determine whether the fabled park will continue to hold the Formula E race.

There had been objections and protests heading into the meeting of members of Wandsworth Borough Council, who were deciding whether a break clause between the park and Formula E Holdings Ltd should be activated, as local citizens showed their displeasure at the event due to the damage caused to the area.

Their main criticism of the event was that of the TV helicopter causing disruption throughout the day, while also earmarking broken tree branches and tyre marks as other incidents.

The vote ended in a result of seven to four in favour of Battersea keeping the all-electric event, with a next opportunity for activating a break clause coming in 2017.

Following the decision, a number of recommendations will be looked at for the event, with better spectator viewing, disabled access and the removal of tyre marks after the race all to be brought under consideration.

Once again, the London ePrix will be the season-ending double header, with the race marked on the calendar for July 2/3.
