On the road to London: Ma Qing Hua

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Ma Qing Hua faced a steep learning curve when he joined Team Aguri ahead of the Paris ePrix. The Chinese driver is currently twenty second in the championship after a retirement and a pointless finish in the two races he had competed in.

It’s been a difficult two races for Ma as he struggled to get to grips with the Formula E car whilst the drivers around him were already in full swing. The Chinese driver benefitted from accidents and disqualifications in both qualifying sessions, but hasn’t been quite so lucky in the races.

Ma faced a difficult weekend at Paris as he tried to get to grips with the new technology. Without a shake down, the Chinese driver had only the two practice sessions to try to learn how to get the most out of the Formula E car before qualifying.

The Team Aguri driver qualified fifteenth, ahead of Loic Duval, Mike Conway, and Nick Heidfeld. Ma moved forward at the start of the race, but struggled in the mid-race car swap when the new driver took half a minute longer than necessary to switch cars. Things went from bad to worse in the second half of the race, though, when an error sent him into the wall, ending his race.

Ma became the most experienced driver at Team Aguri in Berlin when he was joined by a new team mate, Rene Rast. The Chinese driver struggled again in the morning sessions. Though he qualified fourteenth, he was the last of the classified drivers, and behind his less experienced team mate.

The race was a little better, with Ma running eleventh for the majority of the race but falling back to fourteenth for the final classification.

The Chinese driver said he was feeling more comfortable in the Formula E car after the Berlin ePrix. Ma is still getting to grips with the car, but he’s looking forward to London. If he can qualify well again, Ma might be on for a best ever finish in Formula E, with the Battersea Park track notoriously difficult to overtake on.
