Di Grassi versus Buemi: the maths behind the decision

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

With Sebastien Buemi (Renault e.Dams) securing the three additional points for pole-position, he is now even on points with Lucas di Grassi (ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport) before heading into the final race of the season. Nevertheless, the Brazilian has more possibilities to win the championship.

Both Buemi and di Grassi experienced an amazing season and are rightfully the only drivers left to fight for the title. Funnily enough, should both drivers be even on points when the race finishes, the title will be awarded due to the numbers of third places. Buemi and di Grassi both won three races each and so far secured two second places each as well. Unlike Buemi, di Grassi was able to finish third in both Buenos Aires and Berlin, while Buemi only managed to secure a P3-finish in Paris. Due to the FIA Formula E Sportting Regulations Article 7.2 the better results will be the tie-breaker should the two championship contenders draw on points which consequently gives di Grassi more chances to win the title.

As our breakdown has shown, di Grassi has more chances to win the championship than Buemi as the Swiss Renault e.Dams needs to score at least one point more. Should they draw, the title will go to di Grassi. Nevertheless, with regards to the starting grid, it will be anyone’s guess to say who’ll come out on top in the end. 80% of our readers still believe di Grassi will win the title with Buemi coming second.
