Carlos Garcìa-Remohì, president of the Sporting Commission of the Argentine Automobile Club ACA , admitted to e-racing.net that a request was sent to move the Argentinean round to the old F1 Oscar y Juan Gálvez circuit, despite the fact that the FIA and FE would not be likely to give up on the current street circuit in Puerto Madero.

The Buenos Aires 2017 ePrix is likely to remain at Puerto Madero Street Circuit, where Antonio Fèlix da Costa and Sam Bird took their respective wins in 2015 and 2016, according to Carlos Garcìa-Remohì, president of the CDA, the Sporting Commision of the Argentine Automobile Club.

When asked about the several rumours suggesting a possible move to the Oscar y Juan Gálvez circuit which hosted all F1 GPs in the country by e-racing.net at yesterday’s WTCC Race of Argentina launch in Buenos Aires, he answered: “There was a request, yes, but it will be very difficult, because the FIA won’t approve that. Formula E wants to race on street circuits, and they want to remain at Puerto Madero circuit. Argentina has the Autódromo Gálvez, where it would be more logical to race. But the FIA authorises Formula E to run solely on the streets”.

“Mr Jean Todt nowadays wants Formula E to race on street circuits all around the world with the only exception of Mèxico which could incorporate both the circuit and the surrounding streets. The ACA has designed the circuit in Puerto Madero. I understand that a street circuit can bring difficulties to the cities and their governments. If it’s not possible to race in Puerto Madero, then it will have to be moved to the Gálvez circuit, and if not.. well, there will be no race”.

On Tuesday, during the Super TC2000 200km race to be held in the city, Buenos Aires Major Horacio Rodrìguez-Larreta confirmed that his government wants to upgrade the Autódromo Oscar y Juan Gálvez into three different main layouts. Those works are part of a massive building plan along the South of the city, including the Olympic Village for 2018’s Youth Olympic Games, as well as the different sports facilities that will be built around it.
