Aguri confident ahead of energy hungry race

Team Aguri are confident they’ll be able to move up the championship table in the final race of 2015.

Efficient energy management will be key to success in Punta Del Este, with a high percentage of the lap being driven at full throttle. And that is where Team Aguri believe they have the advantage.

“We’re one of the better teams for energy and temperature management, as proven last time out in Putrajaya,” Team Principal Mark Preston said. “We had no problems with battery there, unlike many of the other teams.”

The challenge, he said, will come in qualifying. The narrow track makes overtaking difficult, so a good qualifying is important. Getting stuck behind a slower moving car in qualifying is a real risk.

Nathanaël Berthon, who is making his first outing on the Uruguayan track this weekend, revealed how he has been preparing for the race:

“I’ve spent some time in the simulator learning the track and have also been racing electric cars in the past few weeks – although I don’t think that will help me too much as those races have been on ice in Trophée Andros!”

Antonio Felix da Costa, who retired here last season, said: “We’re moving in the right direction as a team and I’m sure we can make a good step forwards in Uruguay, like we did in Malaysia. The track should suit our car and we should be much more competitive than in Malaysia with the temperatures being much lower. We need a trouble-free weekend and I have no doubt that if we do, we can get a strong result.”
