ABT to put Mexico mix-up behind them for Long Beach

The ABT team suffered a less than ideal race last time out in Mexico, but are hoping to have a little more luck (and a little more weight) as they hope across the border to the final fly away race of the season.

Long Beach saw Daniel Abt’s first Formula E pole position last year, eventually finishing the race in fifteenth whilst team mate Lucas Di Grassi finished on the podium in third.

Di Grassi’s impressive statistic of a podium every race in the second season came to an end after his disqualification in Long Beach. The first of the Brazilian’s two cars was below the weight limit, ruling him out of the race and dropping him back out of the lead of the championship.

Though the mistake will be playing on the team’s minds as they prepare for the sixth round of the championship, Di Grassi insists that’s in the past now.

“Being disqualified in Mexico was obviously a setback in the fight for the title,” he said. “My team has dealt precisely with the circumstances and will do everything in its power to prevent this happening ever again. The issue is now closed for me and I’m only looking forward now: six races, a good 150 points – there is plenty to aim for and our ambition remains unbroken.”

The Long Beach ePrix signals the start of a busy few weeks for the Brazilian, as Di Grassi will be competing in the World Endurance Championship alongside Formula E. Splitting his time doesn’t mean he’s any less committed to his championship battle with Renault e.dams’ Sebastien Buemi, though.

Whilst his team mate was having the worst race of his season so far, Daniel Abt was having his best, and hopes to continue that upwards momentum in the US.

ABT are currently third in the championship, ten points away from Dragon Racing in second. Di Grassi’s disqualification put him second in the drivers’ championship, twenty two points behind Buemi.
