Lopez: ‘This is different to all single seaters’

After the first week of his scheduled testing, Jose Maria Lopez is enjoying the new atmosphere of Formula E and spoke of his first steps in the series.

The Argentinian ace has finally initiated his electric campaign after testing in Donington for DS Virgin Racing and is looking to learn as much as he can as he prepares for his debut in Hong Kong.

“It’s a great feeling to be back here, feeling the air in your helmet makes things more interesting,” said Lopez. “In fact this car is different to all single seaters I used to drive. They are heavier with less grip and more downforce.”

When asked about his team mate Sam Bird, he expressed: “I’m learning a lot from him, everything. It’s great to have someone like him in the team, we’re very lucky. He will help me reaching my best soon.

“We had two days with good weather, today is a bit more difficult, but the track is getting dry. We did a few laps in the wet this morning, and it was good to drive in the wet, you never know when you can have this condition.

“I was a bit disappointed yesterday, I didn’t do a good job, but it’s all about getting experience. It wouldn’t really mean something if you finish first or last here. It’s a very different track, we run at different speeds than in street circuits, but it’s good for me as it helps a lot in terms of experience and learning everything,” he finished.

In two week’s time, before Hong Kong, Lopez could clinch his third World Touring Car Championship title, after beating Juan Manuel Fangio as the Argentinian driver with the most wins at FIA level.
