Jose-Maria Lopez retired from the first Formula E race of his career after suffering suspension damage. He spoke to e-racing.net about his Hong Kong ePrix and his return to single seaters.

As far as debut races in Formula E go, Lopez’s is nothing to be ashamed of. The Argentinian qualified third and, despite suffering suspension damage at the opening corner, put up a good fight as he tried to make it to the end of the race. Unfortunately for him, he would retire after only fifteen laps.

“I’m satisfied by my quali. I think it was a very good quali, but the race was difficult. The race: I had a contact on the first corner and then I touched a wall. The car either side of me tried to come through and I didn’t have the space. Unfortunately I broke the suspension there and my race was over.”

“We were only trying to do enough laps to come to the pits and have a go with the other car and finish the race. But, around lap 20, the suspension broke for real. I went straight at the chicane, I couldn’t turn and that’s it.”

“I wasn’t expecting much from the race. I knew it was going to be difficult. But I was expecting to finish the race. I was only trying to do a smooth race but, unfortunately, from turn one, it was over.”

“The track was nice. I think it was very nice, difficult, narrow, bumpy, but nothing different than what is a street circuit so… I really enjoyed Hong Kong. “

“It felt fantastic. It’s nice to be back, and nice to be in Formula E. I think it’s a nice series.”

“The car is very different. It’s very different to what I’m used to. It’s electric. It’s very heavy. You have small tyres. But I don’t think that anything that I’ve driven before would be much quicker here. I think it’s a nice car. Very challenging. “

“Just… a good race. The race is the main thing. We will try to do a different first corner than this, then we’ll see.”
