Buemi penalised five places for extinguisher leak

Sebastien Buemi has lost his place on the front row for the Marrakesh ePrix following a fault with the built-in fire extinguisher in his qualifying car.

The reigning champion had qualified second behind pole sitter Felix Rosenqvist, but a leak in the fire extinguisher brought the car 3.25kg underweight, a breach of Article 15.4 in the regulations, resulting in a loss of five places on the grid. The Swiss driver will now line up seventh.

As well as the grid drop for Buemi, Renault e.dams have also been fined 2,500 euros for the offence, while the stewards labelled the reason for the penalty as “a serious safety issue”.

As a result, Sam Bird will now line up on the front row alongside Rosenqvist while Piquet moves up to third.
