Sims confirmed by BMW i Andretti for season six

Alexander Sims has been confirmed by BMW i Andretti Motorsport alongside newcomer Maximilian Günther for season six.

31-year-old Briton Sims, a previous F3 and British GT driver, finished his maiden FE campaign in season five on a high with a podium finish and 57 points, placing him 13th in the Drivers’ standings. With Antonio Felix da Costa having left the team for DS Techeetah, Sims’ re-signing is a showing of continuity.

“I learned so much in my rookie year; there were fantastic highs and some lows to overcome and I’m determined to utilise this knowledge and start where I left off, continuing to build from there,” said Sims.

“The competition is set to be tough this season with the other drivers, but I’ve got to grips with the unique challenges of Formula E and I’m ready to turn that experience into good results.”

“We have an exciting driver duo for our second Formula E season,” said BMW Group Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt.

“Alexander learned at a rapid pace in his first season, and showed that he can be up there at the front. He was unlucky in some of the races, but he finally celebrated his first podium in New York. I’m confident that he will be able to build on this in 2019/20.”

BMW i Andretti Motorsport, who finished fifth in the Teams’ standings on 156 points, will be looking to improve on their season five successes, and both Sims and his team will now be looking onwards to next week’s pre-season testing in Valencia.
